PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This presentation will explore how those with ASD are vulnerable to the development of addictive and unhealthy behaviours and understanding biological, psychological and environmental risk factors. The presentation will have an emphasis on addictive and unhealthy behaviours affecting young adolescent individuals, such as gaming, pornography and substances, and will provide strategies to parents/carers and professionals working with this population.

The presentation is for Parents and carers of adolescent individuals with ASD and allied health professionals working with this clinical group who have challenges associated with addictive and unhealthy behaviours.

About the speakers

Prof. Tony Attwood PhD

is an internationally recognised clinical psychologist, educator,
and author. Recently featured on ABC’s Australian Story, Tony is one of the world’s foremost authorities on autism.
His book Asperger’s Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals is an international best seller and seminal in the field.

 

Dr David Zimmerman BPsySc(Hons) Clinical PhD, MAPS

is a Clinical Psychologist who has been working at the Minds & Hearts psychology clinic for the last four years. David has published four peer-reviewed articles and has presented at the International Society for Autism Research conference in Beijing, China. David is a dedicated and caring practitioner that loves working with adolescents and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and supervising other psychologists.

 

Dr Wesley Turner BPsych, BSocSc, Clinical PhD, MAPS

is passionate about working with individuals and Autism Spectrum Conditions, and conducts individual, group and couples therapy, and cognitive assessments. His clinical interest areas include addictions and coping, emotion understanding and management, resilience and hope, couples therapy, and trauma.
