Autistic people commonly experience difficulties with interoception leading to a ‘mind-body disconnect’ and a life that is dominated by either the outside world (inundation from the five senses and the emotions of other people), or the thinking mind (too many thoughts and analysis paralysis), or both. Learning how to sense the body allows earlier emotion recognition, healing from distressing emotions such as trauma and grief, and increases connection to the self. Our course will provide strategies on how to build interoceptive awareness for mind-body connection, enhancing capacity to navigate difficult emotions and increasing connection to the self.
Understand the importance of interoception for self-awareness, emotion regulation and healing emotional pain
Know the association of difficulties with interoception for autistic people and the reasons for the association
Learn safe strategies for increasing interoceptive awareness
